BROOMFIELD, CO The Paul Derda Rec Center is one of the best places for toddlers and their families to play.  Indoor Playground, Spectacular Aquatic Facilities, Game Room, Drop-in Childcare, Gymnastics Center, great Family Locker Rooms.  Non-residents may drop-in or become members.

The indoor play area is like a McDonald's playplace on steriods.  Kids can spend 20-40 minutes there delightfully running around and having fun. There are slides, cargo nets, soft foam obstacles, tunnels, etc.  It is perfect for 2-5 year olds.  The max age for this play area is 7 years old.  There is also an adjoining area with soft-edged creatures for babies to climb on or thru.

Safety note: the slides are pretty slippery, fast, and very fun to go down (onto the cushioned floor).  Please don't let your kids climb up the slides! kids who climb up the slides pose a serious safety hazard to kids who are sliding down.  This rule is posted on obvious signs, please pay attention for everyone's safety.

When arriving, mention at the front desk if your kids are under 4 and just coming for the play area.  They may let you in for free (may depend on the desk clerk).

Across from the play area is a video/game room.  All the video games are free to use and you can get the puck/paddles for the air hockey game by having turning in a valid membership card at the desk.  I don't believe the air hockey equipment can be checked out with just a driver's license.

The facility has many other great areas for supervised kids.  Most obviously there is a wonderful indoor water park including a body slide, lazy river, toddler slide, and a water contraption in a zero-ledge (or zero entry) area.  (For slightly older kids there is also a tube slide and family hot tub.)   The family lockerooms are the best in the area -- even better than the high-priced Lakeshore Athletic Club.  Remember to bring your own towels and a lock.

It is a multi-story venue and the gymastics area downstairs seems massive.  There is also a nice, supervised area for dropping off kids, so parents can take advantage of the cardio equipment, yoga classes, climbing wall, etc.  The rates are per 30 minutes, and annual unlimited childcare passes are available to members.
