Jill: This is absolutely one of my favorite events of the year. The photo of my son with R2-D2 from 2 years ago is still on my desk. You're not likely to find a museum run by a nicer group of people who are so interested in sharing their passion with kids. The Star Wars Pilots, Jedi, & Stormtroopers are all wonderful. These folks come out in costume to see each other, but they really enjoy the attention from the kids. Be sure to visit the "how to find us page" before trying to wing it! :)

TOO MUCH CANDY?

Last year, a mom from my son's preschool told me her wonderful method for managing excessive candy on Halloween. She lets her kids have a few pieces, but suggests leaving the rest outside for the Great Pumpkin who mysteriously replaces the candy with a small toy. (I tried it in 2007 and my kids were thrilled.) Recently I found a cnn.com article on Halloween candy management that mentions a similar character: the Switch Witch. Related ideas include offering a larger toy based on the percentage of candy forfeited, and/or having a costumed neighbor appear at your door requesting the trade of candy for a gift.

 BOULDER COUNTY CASH-FOR-CANDY!
Friday: November 7th, 2008 from 3:30-5:00pm (time unconfirmed for 2008)

Receive $1 per pound of candy. Will be shipped to overseas troops!

Dr. Marc Alber (family dentist in Boulder) and Dr. Gordon West (family dentist in Lafayette) will buy back all of the excess candy our kids have after they have indulged on Halloween night and the day after. Yes, it is okay to squirrel away a few pieces ... just not the pounds of candy that most kids will collect.

Their offices will collect the excess candy and will pay the child $1/pound of candy plus a Firefly toothbrush. Most kids will have about 10 pounds of candy after a serious evening of Trick or Treating.

The candy will be shipped overseas to the courageous troops who will appreciate a treat or two. If you would like to write a letter or draw a picture, they will be included in the boxes to the troops. This offer is open to all kids, not just Dr. Alber's or Dr. West's patients.

Dr. Alber's Office: 303-449-3132 for more information. 2919 Valmont Road, Suite 106, Boulder.

Dr. West's Office: 303-665-5335 for more information. 1140 W. South Boulder Rd, Suite 201, Lafayette.
